2 Questions to Let People Decide
These 2 are my favorite questions when it comes to making up my mind.
I memorised the 1st one about 8 years ago. This is my tactical one that helps me clarify what to do next as the day progress:
1
What's the most important thing I should be doing with my time and resources right now?
— Greg McKeown (author of Essentialism: The Disciplined Pursuit of Less)
What I love about this question is that it helps me break preordained priorities.
It frees me to decide based on context, moment of the day, energy, attention levels, and other criteria.
Sometimes, the most important thing to do is to take a break, or clean up my download bin.
Seriously, not every task needs to be trascendental or super hard to complete. If you want to spend your waking hours in a more balanced and uplifting way, then this question is for you.
Now, let's move on to my strategic one:
2
If you assume that you’re going to be successful whichever direction you go (i.e. doing A, B, or C), what would you most want to do?
— Josh Spector (creator of the For The Interested newsletter)
I found this one useful for big, less frequent decisions such as career moves, which customer segment to focus on, which initiative to launch, and some other situations where several good options are on the table.
