Hack one of your tools today

The same way you can use a hammer to both tear down and build up things, you can choose to defy traditional ways of using managerial tools and practices.
Take Goal Setting for instance.
From a command and control perspective... you can set goals for teams and reinforce a "meet the numbers or else" culture that hinders ambition, innovation, and collaboration.
In contrast, from an enable and trust perspective... you can use the same goal setting practice as a way to nurture ambition, innovation, and collaboration by:
- Letting teams set their own goals
- Promoting a culture of "let's be the best we can be with no carrot sticks attached."
After all...
The greater danger for most of us lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low, and achieving our mark. —Michelangelo
Dear leader and newsletter reader, what's the most annoying management practice that comes into your mind? I invite you defy its significance. And as always, if you need advice feel free to hit reply.
Have fun hacking command and control!
