Jobs to Be Done Types
Jobs to be Done Types: functional, emotional, and social

Story time: A colleague of mine asked me for some Jobs-to-be-Done type definitions. You know, the classic functional, social, and emotional types. I thought a quick Internet search would suffice, but no. I didn't find something concrete. With little patience, and thinking I may have lost my search mojo, I decided to write them instead. Here's what I came up with:

Jobs to Be Done Types

Functional: tangible outcomes your customer wants to achieve—i.e. "I need to hang a picture on the wall."

Emotional: psychological states your customer wants to experiment—i.e. "I want to feel I'm capable of doing things on my own (and for that, I think I need to hang a picture on the wall)."

Social: status your customer wants to have within a certain group—i.e. "I wish my roommates could see me as an independent reliable person (and that's why I need to hang a picture on the wall)."

Do you have some concrete, rambling-free, alternative definition at hand? If so, please hit reply and share them with me. If not, feel free to use mine.

Thanks for reading!

Alberto
