Companies who "transform" with Agile–but now ditch Agile–didn't transform at all. They just: 

  • Signed up for a multi-year-gym-membership plan.
  • Didn't show up to the gym to work out.*
  • Didn't observe results while staring at the mirror–of course!
  • Cancelled the subscription, claiming: "You see? it doesn't work!"

Renaming roles, renaming divisions, replacing sitting reporting with standing reporting, replacing hours incurred with story-points burned, among other "from-the-comfort-of-your-couch-changes" do NOT count as work out.

Transcending 'leadership' from controllers to enablers, moving from siloed interests to shared focus, moving from repressing information to flowing information, reducing outputs for boosting outcomes, among other "make-your-muscles-ache-changes" do count.
